Why are we doing this?

The Glazing installation industry has a strong reputation for quality and consumer confidence. However, it only takes a few rogue traders to tarnish the industry's reputation with their scams designed to try and rip off the general public.

This Cowboy Stoppers site is sponsored by FENSA (the Fenestration Self-Assessment Scheme for companies that install windows and doors in homes) and the IT services company Borough IT. Both companies are committed to developing the glazing industry, protecting and providing a quality service to its consumers.

Despite the antics of the 'Rogue Few' we want to reassure and advise consumers that there are lots of reputable companies out there. The aims of this site include directing consumers to the best places to look for quality companies and, as importantly, reminding you what to avoid. In doing so, we hope to significantly reduce the homeowners chances of hiring a cowboy.

FENSA currently has 9000 reputable replacement window and door companies registered. To register with FENSA each company must:

• Ensure that all work complies with a number of relevant building regulations.
• Submit themselves to annual compliance inspection, with the number of inspections being directly related to the number of installations a company does.
• Every company must be able to offer an insurance backed guarantee to offer extra cover for the homeowner should the company not be able to fulfill its guarantee obligations.
